Close to election day this year I decided to do nail art that expressed my support for Barack Obama. (I was particularly proud of the Hope symbol on my thumb and right ring finger.)election nail art 3

I was proud of my work, but nothing topped the retweet that I got on November 6th…

Like my earlier post about hamburger cookies, I have a thing for mini foods and sweets. These mini donuts were another family favorite growing up because they’re easy to make and fun for kids to decorate. I used a basic donut recipe (found here) and piped the dough into a tray with small rings.

The finished product:

The exciting part is creating the variety of decorations. Shake made donuts in a bag full of cinnamon and sugar, dip the tops in chocolate icing, roll in powdered sugar, ETC.

Though there’s no timely inspiration (unlike my Christmas or seasonal nails), these nautical nails were equally prompted by a lazy evening putting off work. I took some inspiration – as usual, from Pinterest to create these Nautical Nails.

Miniature foods are always more adorable than regular-sized bites. What makes them even better? When mini foods are made to look like other delicious foods!

These “hamburger cookies” are made from Nilla Wafers and Keebler’s Fudge Mint Grasshoppers (though Girl Scout Thin Mints also suffice). The recipe can be found here.

For an added dose of adorable, dip the tops in vegetable oil and sprinkle on sesame seeds, etc.

As the Thanksgiving meal came to a close – my mother put away the dishes and my family gathered around the sofas for tea, I happily found my place at the dining room table to commence my nail art. November 23rd, an earlier date than usual, but nonetheless a socially appropriate day to start celebrating Christmas. Thus, holiday themed nail art!
